Zadar

The famous port-town is located in the southwest from Vir, around 18 km far from the island. The oldtown was build in the early 1000s. The narrow mews, cafés and restaurants make it a tipically mediterranean town. Youngsters can also find entertainment in the local pubs, bars and discos. We can also lye on the beach and bathing in the sea. At two designated beaches. There are also swimming pools filled with salt-water.

Zadar is the oldest slavic town in the Adriatic area. Its history traces back to the roman ages. In the middle ages, the Hungarian Kingdom and the Venetians were fighting for the domination of this land. The town centre (old town) lies on a peninsula and fenced by a thick wall. The most famous art relic in the old town is the roller shaped St. Donat churh, where concerts are held nowadays, thanks to its accoustic. Nearby the church can be found the Forum, which was build in the roman-era. Its huge columns remained even now.

Frequent ship charters depart from the harbour of Zadar to the Kornati archipelago and to the largest Croatian port-towns, like Rijeka, Split and Dubrovnik, and even to Italy (Ancona).

Zadar has two designated places where bathing is permitted. The one can be found close to the city centre. The other one, which is larger and more popular is located in Puntamika , a quarter of Zadar. When visiting Zadar, one must take a look at the water-organ, which is one of its kind in Europe. The organ sounds in a very interesting way according to the waving of the sea. This was built in 2005 and can be found at the peak of the peninsula, nearby the harbour.   Nightlife The clubs and bars are crowded with people, so the younger tourist also find entertainment. In the weekdays, cafés are preferred, and in the weekend, tha bars and clubs are more crowded.
